The origin of Diwali, arguably, goes back to the Ramayans, when victorious Ram was welcomed in Ajodhya, by lighting diyas in every home and terrace.

Kids have a gala time, as they are into get togethers, and adding to the fun is fire crackers and good food and sweets.
It is also customery to gamble at home at this time of the year, to try one's luck.

The country's economy gets a full turnover at this season, with almost all businesses doing well. Hence this festival is also important from an economic point of view.
Tourists from other countries flock at this time, to enjoy the beauty and to have feel of the ethnic culture of India.
