Heart-Embossed Diary

Materials Needed:

• A tracing paper sheet.
• Heavy-duty aluminium foil - 1 sheet (dimensions: 1" X 7").
• Discarded ball-point pen/embossing tool.
• Double-sided tape.
• Cardboard - 1 sheet (dimensions: 10.5" X 8").
• A plain diary (dimensions: 10.5" X 8").
• A 1" size clear heart gem.
• 2 pink gems (dimensions: 2" X 5/8").
• A 1/2" clear gem.
• White (PVA) glue.
• Template (provided here).
• A pair of sharp scissors.

Instructions:

Trace the template design and attach to the wrong side of the foil. Lay this on a soft surface. Use sharp scissors to trim the foil and leave a 2cm border around the template. Make a series of dots over the design with the tip of the discarded ball pont pen /embossing tool.

Stick double-sided tape to one side of the cardboard. Paste the tape along each edge and through the center. Take the tracing away from the foil. Flip the foil in such a way that the wrong side of the design is placed over the middle of the cardboard and the raised dots can be seen. Paste the foil onto the cardboard surface.

Turn up the two short foil edges and trim using scissors. This would help fold over the foil neatly. Use double-sided tape to stick down the edges. Similarly, turn up the two long foil edges and trim the corners with scissors. Stick down as before.

Place the foil-covered cardboard on the front cover of the diary and stick in position with double-sided tape.

Use white glue to stick the gems to the cover to achieve a perfect finish.
