Sun and Zodiac Round Box
This is a lovely gift not only for valentine's day, but for all
occasions. It is made from slabs of modeling material. The slabs
are joined by smoothing the inside seams with a modeling tool. When
the pot is complete, smooth the out side seams. This pot is ideal
for storing small valuables. To make a nest of pots, make two more
pots- one smaller and one larger than your sun and star pot.
|
|
|
Roll a
large slab of material until it is 5mm (.25 inch) thick. Use an upturned
glass to cut out two circles. Cut out two strips, one 25cm X 5cm (10inX2in)
and one 25cm (10in X 3/4in) |
|
|
To make
the lid, roll out one of the circles until it is 5mm (1/4 inch) wider than
the other circle. Score around the side of the lid before pressing on the
narrow strip. Bind the edges together. |
|
|
Score the
side of the remaining circle and carefully wrap the wider strip of material
around it. Support the sides of the pot as you bind the edges together and
smooth the joins. |
|
|
Press an
upturned glass on to rolled out material to make the outline of a circle.
Into the center, place a small circle of material. Carve the sun's rays
around it using the modeling tool. |
|
|
Cut out
the sun with the modeling tool and position it on the flat, upper surface
of the lid. Place the lid on the upturned glass to dry. Allow the pot and
the lid to dry for 12 hoursbefore turning them over to dry for further 12
hours. |
|
|
Paint and
decorate the insides and the out sides of the pot and the lid. When dry,
apply a varnish of 8 part PVA glue to 1 part water. |
|
|
And here
is the Zodiac and Sun pot ready! Here are some painting tips to help
you thru:
Paint the inside and outside of the pot first. While this is drying, paint
the top and the bottom of the lid yellow. Decorate the pot with stars and
then go on to complete the lid with the blue and green paint. To finish,
paint stars on the lid.
*To make the Zodiac and the moons really shine, sprinkle gold or silver
glitter in the wet paint. |
