Noughts and Crosses

The Noughts and Crosses bracelet will really impress your friends! It looks terrific in black and white, but could also be braided using the colours of your favourite football team.

Materials Needed:

Noughts and Crosses - step 1 1. You will need eight pieces of thread in two colours, each 100cm (40in) long. Tie the threads in a knot and plait them for 5cm (2in). Fasten the threads to the work surface with tape at the end of the plait. Lay out threads as shown.
Noughts and Crosses - step 2 2. Take the thread on the far left (in this project it is purple) and tie two knots on each of the three threads to its right. Leave the purple thread in the middle. Repeat with the purple thread on the far right
Noughts and Crosses - step 3 3. Take the purple thread on the middle right and knot it over the middle left thread. Do two knots. Repeat steps and 2 and 3 using the three outer pairs of threads. Start with the outermost thread on the left.
Noughts and Crosses - step 4 4. Knot the far right purple thread over the purple thread next to it. Do two knots. Repeat with far left purple thread.
Noughts and Crosses - step 5 5. Using the fourth thread from the left, do three knots on each of the threads to its left. Repeat with fourth thread from right.
Noughts and Crosses - step 6 6. Knot the new middle right thread over the middle left thread, twice. Repeat step 5 to make a cross. Repeat steps 5 and 6 using the purple threads. Knot the middle left pink thread over the thread to its left, twice.
Noughts and Crosses - step 7 7. Knot the middle right pink thread over the thread to its left, twice. Next, knot the middle right thread over the middle left thread, twice.
Noughts and Crosses - step 8 8. To complete the design, repeat from step 2 onwards until your bracelet is the right length. To finish, plait 5cm (2in) and tie a knot and trim the ends.
