Pack a basket to picnic in style. Select a Fourth of July hotspot, vibrant with colors
and loaded with variety of events.
Spend the day under the sun viewing parades,
outdoor concerts, or plays.
Or, you can also pick up a less crowded beach, if you stay in the coastal
belt.
A nature park is also a great picnic spot, even for those who are a
little laid back types.
Well, if you are sporty, you can always pick up the spot offering facilities
according to your choice. For instance, a facility to swim, or snorkeling,
horse
ride through the shady terrain.
Or, just drift in a paddle boat.
If you just don't like these, no problem. Go for a trek through
the wilderness
and enjoy the beauty of the leaf fringed slices of the sky,
and the chirping of the birds.
Or, just take a walk along a quiet dirt road, may be, leading to a cool lake
front.
And, if, trekking or walking is no fun to you, chill
out with your favorite book,
or, with a harmonica - under a shady tree,
smelling the green that surrounds you.
Or, just go frolicking with
your friends on the lush green natural carpet.
Or, hop or idle around.
Fly colors, if you can - red, white and blue. They are the best theme colors
of the Day.
Picnic pack up:
Try to keep requirements to a minimum.
Pack plastic plates and cups.
Concentrate on finger foods and those can be
eaten
with just a fork
Take lots of absorbent paper towels as well as colorful paper napkins.
A plastic ground sheet
A picnic blanket
Dish towels
Cooler(s) to keep the food fresh and drinks cool.
Quite a few of sunshades and straw hats
A bottle of seltzer (sparkling mineral water) |
Menu reminder:
Irrespective of the sight you select, make sure you provide a varied enough
selection of food. And that too in sufficient quantities to support the
lunch and afternoon snacks as well. No need to go in for a gorgeous pack up.
Even, simple foods can make the most elegant picnics. For instance, the smoked salmon sandwiches, a pot of lumpfish roe, smoked fish pate, some special cold meat pie, spicy meatballs, a pizza slice that cuts into fingers neatly, bowls of dip and bought chips to dunk.
You can go liberal in filling your basket with cold fried chicken, individual pies, spicy meatballs,
pizza slice.
Summer Fruit cup:
A fruit cup always goes down well at any daylight feast. Served in a large glass or punch bowl it also looks wonderfully festive. Slice an orange, a lemon, whole strawberries, seedless green grapes and finely sliced cucumber into the bowl and add 4 mint sprigs, and 4 lemon balm sprigs, if liked. Base this on grape juice, or exotic fruit juice flavors. Such as mango, pineapple, and passion fruit juice. Top the fruit punch with seltzer for a better effect.
Simple cloth idea:
For a large picnic, decorate an old sheet with lots of simple appliqué
flower shapes in different colors.
Stitch ribbons of red, white and blue on the corners and halfway along the sides, then tie these
to meat skewers ortent pegs and hammer them into the ground to
prevent the cloth flying away.
You can also paint some gravels in red white and blue. It's a nice timepass
before getting started with the food. Lay them on all
corners to weight down the cloth.
Post picnic wrap up:
Remember, the post picnic wrap up is no less important than the pre-picnic
pack up. Never leave the place littered with left-over food, beverage
bottles and plastics.
Remember cleaning plays a vital role in a picnic. It's the responsibility of the
picnickers to keep the trash to its minimum. So don't try to litter around in an unwarranted manner. It
will ease down your clean up job.
It's convenient where the local authority provides the disposal facility. What you all need to do is just collect everything in a bag and dump the bag in a place meant for this.
Where no such facility is available, it makes the job more difficult. And you need to be more careful then.
First of all, you need to collect the trash in the disposal bag. Then you are to carry the bag with you. At least up to the nearest dumping ground or vat.
