December Ember

Try as I might
It was a hemless night
Two fabrics, worn out by the world
But held together by the each
And friction, a fickle friend
Made us
Colder in place of warmth
More full in place of loss
Apart instead of a part of it
But, try as I might
I was polite
Self-assuredly cool.
Two fabrics worn out by the world
Sew what?

Lord, I Love You

Lord, I love you,
Lord of all,
I love the way you follow fall
With winter and with Christmas time
And inspire men like me to rhyme.

Lord, I love you,
Lord of Earth,
I love the day of your son's birth
And will forever cherish Yuletide
Until I am an angel a-bowing at your side.

Grow Green Along With Me

Grow green along with me
Like the needles in the tree
Grow green along with me
The best is yet to be.

Grow bright against the night
Like the star- and candlelight
Grow bright against the night
As the rest goes on despite.

Grow love like farmers do
Plant His seeds and sow them too
Grow love like farmers do
In all the world and inside you.

It is Christmas time
Lovely, bright, and green
Grow all these things along with me
The best had not yet been.

The Gift

Bow and ribbon,
Love and glitter
Cover the gift as curiosities flitter
Of what wonders could come inside
And what this eve has been supplied
By family, friend and stranger, too
Saying with the gift,
"I Love You"
Bow and ribbon
Love and glitter
Will never make a soul grow bitter
For no matter what the gift may or may not hold
The giving is as pure as gold.

Winter Breeze

Winter breeze, so briskly blowing
In my yard the snowman's growing.
If you're cold and getting thinner
You must try Grandma's Christmas dinner!

The Green Elephant

Ladies and Gentlemen, please
Rest your legs, your hearts and your keys.
For it's that hour again
For us to begin
The yearly, loved dearly, festivities.

Now, each brings a gift liked by male or female.
All the same value even if on sale.
But be safe what you bring,
For if another steals the thing,
It may be your own you unveil.

No maid may be without merriment,
No man of ill-favored temperament.
So, please every madam and chap
Favor the room with your clap
And let us fast find our first recipient.

The player who draws number one
Picks first and again when all are done.
Then the Second may steal
Or choose a new present to reveal.
And that is how the game is won.

Is this the year you sit firm,
Planning and scheming until it's your turn?
Well, however it's played.
Remember don't be dismayed,
For we're all chasing that olive drab Pachyderm.

Max's Last Christmas

When I was young and knew not much
And could not call myself devout as such
I liked to sneak downstairs each Christmas Eve night
And see if that Old Saint Nick just might
Pop in for a late night snack
So I could take a peek inside that famed red sack.
Of course he usually did not come
Until the year I turned ninety-one.
And since the years were on me then
When first I spied that rosy chin
I though I might have double vision
But knew as quick by his precision
That indeed after all those years
Old Saint Nick was finally here.
Back I fell in expectant awe
From what then my widened eyes saw:
A flash of crimson, fast as light
And then the man was out of sight
But in his place there sat a bag,
Embroidered, bejeweled and sporting a tag.
I looked around in disbelief
Wavering there just like a thief,
And thought my moment with Saint Nick was dead
Until I pulled the tag and read:

"I am sorry, Max, for all these years!
I am sorry for all of your tears
That I have made you cry
When every Christmas I did not come by.

You see, Max, there are so many homes.
The names and addresses fill up tomes.
But somehow I must have missed your call.
So, I hope this sack makes up for them all"

And when Max was done and in joy basked
Inside was everything for which he had ever asked:
A toy horse, a puppy dog, a real electric train,
A baseball glove and baseball bat, a model flying plane.
All was there from the ninety years he had been
Waiting for Old Saint Nick to stop and come on in.
Now I know that all the dreams you dream come true.
From me and Saint Nick, Merry Christmas to you!

Whispers White

The snow comes down in whispers white
And covers everything in sight
Making all that Heaven might
Know that this is Christmas Night.

Swirls and swirls of flying flakes
Dance, then glance the heavens, and makes
Me thank the Lord for no mistakes
In delivering his Son for all our sakes.

The snow comes down in whispers white
And covers everything in sight
Making all that Heaven might
Know that this is Christmas Night.

Grace

Lord bless us now and bless this food.
Bless our minds and bless our mood.

Divinely bless this humble meal,
The way we think and the way we feel.

Please, bless each one within this place
Every time that we say "Grace"

And lead us, Lord, away from sin
Every time we say, "Amen".

Wee Mitchell Mouse

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, except little Mitchell Mouse.
From beneath the pile of old newspapers in the living room,
Snuck the little bugger, faster than a witch's broom.

Into the kitchen, Mitchell Mouse fast did spring
Till he saw a strange old lady in sweaters, staring at something.
So, young Mitchell upward spied and his consciousness was gone,
When he saw a centerfold of Ricky Martin without a stitch of clothing on.

Hard did he fight to run away, and run away quick
But stopped when that lady, entranced, gave the poster a lick!
Wee Mitchell Mouse, his tail caught underneath her shoe,
Screeched out, "Let me go, freaky lady, or I'll go poopy on you!!!"

Up jumped the weird woman in all her gray hair,
Up went her hands and Ricky into the air.
The mouse, now free ran with all his might
But again was frozen, this time in fright.

What his eyes fell upon was even worse than the last
It scared him so much he closed his eyes and ran past.
When brave, tiny Mitchell got safely out of sight,
He ducked down, darkly hidden, and turned to his right.

Simultaneously, loud music from somewhere else began
As he cringed at the sight now of a naked old man.
It was none other than Bill Clinton with cigar in his mouth,
In front of the missus beginning to "go south".

The following was but darkness and delirium and dreams,
But not for long for the lovemaking screams.
And he heard only this as that queer Santa turned out the light,
"Merry Christmas Joan, and by all means sleep tight…"
